Muay Thai Shorts
In Action At
Kombat Cardio
We could've shot these shorts on a mannequin in a white room like everyone else. Instead we packed the lighting rig into the car and dragged it into an actual Muay Thai gym, because apparently we enjoy doing things the hard way.
Big thanks to Taz from Kombat Cardio for letting us take over a corner of the gym for the day and not kicking us out when we started setting up softboxes next to the heavy bags. Full proper shoot — lighting, the lot — just aimed at real Muay Thai shorts Australia athletes actually train in, instead of someone standing very still trying not to sweat on the studio backdrop.
Because here's the thing: a product photo on a plain background can tell you what MMA shorts Australia wide look like sitting there doing nothing. What it can't tell you is whether they survive an actual round — real kicks, real bag work, someone genuinely trying to knock a hole in leather rather than "acting" for the camera. So that's what we went and found out.
Between rounds we were adjusting reflectors; between shots, someone was still throwing combinations. It was less "photoshoot with a break for training" and more "training session that occasionally paused for a photoshoot" — which is honestly the better way to prove Muay Thai training shorts actually hold up, rather than just look good standing still.
Special Thanks
Massive thanks to Taz and the whole Kombat Cardio team for letting us turn up with a van full of gear and take over a corner of the gym for the day. And to fighters Martina, Stefan, and Thomas — thanks for training at full intensity while we hovered around with lights and cameras trying not to get punched. If you're in the area and training Muay Thai or boxing, go check them out. Great gym, great people, surprisingly patient with photographers.
